Pennsylvania Scavenger Hunt for Middle School Students

  1. From the Middle School homepage, do a Keyword Search on roller coaster. How many search results were generated? For comparison, do the same search in Google and see how many results you get there.

  3. Do a Famous Person Search on a U.S. President. Name the president you choose.

  5. Create a Famous Person List in netTrekker's Secondary section that will include an Hispanic American baseball player who lived in the mid and late 1900’s. How many famous people were generated on the list?


  6. In the resulting list, find Roberto Clemente and click on the Timeline icon after his name. netTrekker d.i. will display a timeline of events during Roberto Clemente's lifetime. Name a world figure who was alive when Mr. Clemente was born and still living when he died. Name an invention, a famous novel written, and a war that took place during Mr. Clemente's lifetime.


  7. Using the Current Events section, click on World News. How many newspapers published in Peru are available in English? What is the name of the first Peruvian newspaper listed in English?


  8. Click on References in the Features box. Locate the Finders section in the lower left corner of the page. How many resources are listed in the Copyright-Free and Friendly Clip Art section?


  9. Click on the Middle School tab at the top of the page and do a Keyword Search on the Johnstown Flood. How many search results were generated? How many sites contain pictures? How many sites come from the area of Social Studies?


  10. Do a Keyword Search on Lewis and Clark. How many search results have maps or charts?


  11. Another way to find information on Lewis and Clark is the Timeline search ­ click on Timeline under the Features box on the right. Click on U.S. History - A New Nation Timeline icon - under events click on the Lewis and Clark link. Who is the author/publisher of the website "The Lewis and Clark Journey of Discovery"?


  12. Create a Famous Person Search in netTrekker's Secondary section for Rachel Carson. netTrekker will display a timeline of events during Rachel Carson's lifetime.   14. Do a Subject Search by clicking on Biology under the Science subject area. Drill down to Animals then click on Pets.
